La sindrome di Ekbom
Ekbom’s syndrome

Ekbom’s syndrome is a not well-known entity and is characterised by the delusional belief of being infested by parasites.
This disease occurs more frequently in females and begins after menopause, in presenile or senile age.
It seems that psychological, social, and physical aspects are all involved in the onset of Ekbom’s syndrome.
Symptoms improve when neuroleptic, antidepressant (tricyclic and others), and benzodiazepine drugs are prescribed.
Many questions on its nosology, physiopathology and therapeutics still remain.
This paper aims at providing a clinical contribution on this subject.
A case of an aged woman with Ekbom’s disease and her entire family, which shared the disorder, will be presented.
