Aim of this study is to investigate relationship between personality and web access and use («web addiction»).
Methods
The Internet Use, Abuse and Dependence (UADI) questionnaire and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2) were administered off-line to regular Internet users (163 men and 78 women).
Results
Specifically for males, data analysis shows significant correlations between UADI and some MMPI scales. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) carried out MMPI mean scores of four groups, subdivided on the basis of UADI scores, shows significant differences consistent with the correlations.
Conclusions
Results point at an indicative personality profile that is characterized by high levels of Internet use that, however, cannot be generalized.
