La remissione come end-point clinico nella comorbidità depressione-ansia
Remission as a clinical end-point in anxiety-depression comorbidity

The definitions of clinical response and remission are first taken into consideration in both quantitative and qualitative terms. Antidepressant drug response profiles are subsequently analysed, taking also into account the assessment of efficacy both acutely and in the long term.

Within the context of long-term treatment, the problems of relapse and recurrence of the depressive episode are dealt with, detailing the mechanisms, predictive traits, diagnosis, and treatment.

The central section of the paper focuses on comorbid anxiety and depression, with an epidemiological review of the issue. Comorbidity between generalized anxiety and depression is extrapolated from global data on anxiety disorders, examining not only prevalence, but also course with time of depression with respect to anxiety (i.e., preexisting, overlapping, and following).

The last sections analyse the pharmacological treatment of comorbid generalized anxiety and depression with particular reference to venlafaxine, presenting data of various studies.
