The authors consider hysteria, anorexia and Substance-Related Disorders on the basis of epidemiologic studies which once more confirm that hysteria and anorexia appear more often in females than in males, while Substance-Related Disorders are diagnosed more commonly in males.
Psychiatric and non psychiatric literature, especially concerning hysteria and anorexia, are revisited and an outline of the latest scientific articles is proposed; four famous movies which have offered an appreciable contribution to the object of this study are also analysed.
Finally, the authors hope that, to improve the healthy development of what is masculine and what is feminine both outside and inside each person, educational, cultural, existential and therapeutical modalities should be individuated and pursued.
