Objective: burnout can be defined as a stressful condition observed in human service professions. In this article the authors show correlations between anger and burnout.
Methods: thirty-six subjects working in two different oncologic staffs have been examinated by the following instruments: MBI Maslach Burnout Inventory; CPS Comrey Personality Scales; STAXI State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory.
Results: all the subjects showed a medium-high level of burnout, related to work duration. Anger level (AX/EX) and Anger-Out are directly proportional to the level of burnout, while the control of anger is inversely proportional to burnout.
Conclusion: anger, as a response to frustration, seems to be a feature constantly associated to clinical expression of burnout and it is not to be underestimated in both theoretical and preventive contexts.
