Summary
Second generation antipsychotic drugs are associated with significant weight gain, hyperlipidemia and diabetes, according to several studies. We report the case of young woman 21 years old suffering of paranoid schizophrenia , who unsuccessfully treated during three years, reached a great improving in symptomatology with Clozapine. This treatment unfortunately led to a full-blown metabolic syndrome, therefore aripiprazole (15 mg) was started on the basis of its known little effect on weight. At the same time, clozapine's dose was slowly reduced up to 50 mg/day. Described treatment allowed both stabilization of clinical symptoms and improvement in metabolic parameters.
