In the DSM-IV-TR, the term "impulsiveness" is little represented, as if such dimension had no importance for the nosological identification of individual disorders and no diagnostic specificity to allow, together with other criteria, to discriminate among the different psychiatric disorders. In the last 10 years, several studies assessed the presence of impulsiveness within the different psychiatric disorders, frequently finding a high-level of its expression and underlining the presence of different biological changes, as well as the selective effectiveness of specific drugs, in the different disorders in which impulsiveness was found.
