Event, life situation, reaction to the event, phenomenological psychopatology

Our objective is to investigate the role of cognitive devices, as general concepts of Life Event and Life Situation, in psychopathology. The concept of Event has had several meanings in the history of the Psychiatry. It has been considered as a "bullet" which strikes the subject from outside, or, on the opposite, as a "detector" of the subject’s personality. From the latter point of view, the Event becomes meaningful in echoing the personality’s traits. The concept of Situation is instead a typical concept of the Phenomenological Psychopathology and it refers to the Ego-World relationships of a given human being in a given time. We can conclude that, although these two concepts are different and fit different methods of research, it’s impossible to consider one without the other. This might be an example of complementarity between Empirical and Phenomenological research in Psychiatry.
