The steps founding the background of stalking are investigated from a structural and psychopathological point of view. The more typical clinical syndromes are stressed, with special emphasis on the critical points between the real clinical conditions and the physiology of human love passions.
The roots of harassing behaviour are indicated in the confusion between one’s own Self and the Other, which is the founding condition of all passionate experiences, hence, stalking potential is inbuilt in the “genetic heritage” of all passions, love in particular. Concluding, it is emphasised that any harassment behaviour should be viewed within a relationship and interpreted taking into account a subjective view.
