Burn-out: una riflessione
Burn-out: a remark
In the most recent years, the term "burn-out" has become part of "slang".
However, despite an abuse and misuse, the term burn-out does identify a specific
syndrome. The phenomenon in fact is quickly and insidiously increasing in incidence,
particularly among people working in the "health-care" industry. The
burn-out syndrome has a varied pathogenesis, but the physician-patient relationship
seems to be at the core of its development: without this relationship there
is no burn-out syndrome, but also no cure.
Both physical and psychological symptoms are part of the burn-out clinical picture:
they first impair the "health-care worker – patient relationship",
then damage the social and personal life-of the affected individual.
Prevention remains the most effective treatment.
