Pharmacological treatment of bulimia nervosa has some theoretical implications related to the complexity of this condition in terms of ethiopathogenetic, psychopathological, diagnostic and Axis I and II comorbidity. In particular the relationships between eating-disordered behaviour and depression on one hand, and personality on the other, need to be investigated. Data from literature about antidepressants and fluoxetine in bulimia are discussed.
